Rainbows
A rainbow is very enchanting to watch. It is usually visible after a rainfall. The Sun light that we see is actually made of seven colours: violet, indigo, blue,
green, yellow, orange and red. A rainbow is formed when the sunlight is bent or refracted by the raindrops suspended in the air.
The light is bent as it enters the rain drop and is refracted from the back of the drop, before being bent again as it leaves the drop. Each color in the white light is bent to a slightly different extent and so the drops split the light into the colours of the spectrum.
For a rainbow to appear, the Sun should not be more than 42° higher. To see a rainbow, the Sun should be behind us. Rainbows may also be produced at night from the light reflected by the moon, but the colours are feeble.
